SISIS Litamina 1200 Sweeper Slashes Leaf Removal Labour On Kent Golf Course
The Gillingham Golf Club is a short parkland course in Medway, Kent. Known for its fast greens, Gillingham is lined by beautiful trees, which make every autumn a challenge for its greenkeepers.
Enter the Litamina 1200 sweeper from Derbyshire manufacturer SISIS. “Due to the sheer number of trees, we have to constantly keep on top of the fallen leaves—hence the reason we bought the Litamina 1200,” says Deputy Head Greenkeeper Mark Jaques.
The tractor-pulled Litamina 1200 collector is ideal for the quick removal of not only leaves and pine needles, but also grass clippings, litter, thatch, and aeration cores. It can operate on fine turf and outfield turf, as well as on sand-filled or rubber crumb artificial surfaces.
“It is also extremely easy to assemble on to the back of our tractor, and because it is manufactured by SISIS you know it is going to be reliable,” Jaques says. “The Litamina offers a certain peace of mind. At the end of the day, the leaves don’t stop falling and we need to be on top of that to keep the members happy.”
Huge Manpower Savings
“It has been a tough year. We lost a couple of greenkeepers due to the financial restraints of the pandemic,” says Jaques. “Every member of staff, every single piece of equipment and every single product needed to be at its absolute best. I would say that the Litamina has been absolutely vital—transformed the way we work in fact.”
Previously, the Gillingham greenkeepers used a tractor-mounted leaf blower that made debris removal a three-person task. Having worked with a Litamina sweeper at a prior groundskeeping job, however, Jaques knew that it could save his new crew a great deal of time and effort.
“Thanks to the Litamina, leaf collecting is now a one-man job. It sweeps and picks them up in one pass,” Jaques says. “The manpower it has saved us has been golden.
“I like the brush on it, too, and you can see how it lifts the grasses up—we actually use it as an opportunity to go behind with a mower,” says Jaques. “This, for me, is an added benefit as it helps with presentation. I would say that the course is the tidiest it has ever been and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the members—a lot of them comment on how easy it is to find balls now!”
Easy To Mount & Adjust
The Litamina 1200 sweeper has a working width of 1,200 millimetres (48 inches). It can be pulled by a tractor of 25 horsepower (18.6 kilowatts) or greater using standard Category 1 three-point linkage. The sweeper has a spiral design brush that can be adjusted without tools. Its galvanized hopper can be tipped hydraulically to empty it of debris. The hopper’s mesh allows infill to fall back down to a synthetic surface.
