Sisis Litamina 1200 Sweeper Helps Merchiston Castle School Keep Grounds Tidy
The addition of a Sisis Litamina 1200 tractor-mounted sweeper made work easier for the grounds crew at Edinburgh’s Merchiston Castle School. The Latamina 1200 helps maintain roughly 100 acres of sports facilities for rugby, football, hockey, cricket, tennis, golf, and other green spaces at Scotland’s only all-boys independent boarding school.
"As a school, we've long relied on Sisis equipment," says Stuart Chalmers, head groundsman at Merchiston Castle School. "Their machines were here when I first started, and they've proven their longevity over the years. We're constantly striving to make improvements, and Sisis equipment aligns perfectly with our ethos."

Founded in 1828, the school is no stranger to the Litamina 1200, having previously used one for over a decade. The Sisis sweeper has a spiral brush and galvanised hopper capable of collecting a wide range of debris while hugging the contours of the grounds. Chalmers uses the sweeper for leaf collection, among other maintenance tasks. The school also employs a Sisis Maxislit tractor-mounted deep-slitting lawn aerator to keep the Merchiston Castle School grounds immaculate.
"We had an older Litamina 1200 that served us well for over 10 years," Chalmers explains. "When the time came to replace it, there was no question—we opted for the same machine. It's simply that good."
"The Litamina 1200 has become indispensable in our maintenance routine," he adds. "Primarily used on our rugby and football pitches, it not only cleans the surface but also helps rejuvenate the grass, allowing for better air circulation and preparing the turf for our mowing programme."

The Litamina sweeper collects grass, leaves, pine needles, thatch, litter, and other debris with spiral brushes and guides it into the large, galvanised collection hopper. It has a working width of 1,200 millimetres (47 inches), a hydraulic tip to empty the hopper, and requires a tractor with at least 25 horsepower (19 kilowatts).
