Lymington Golf Centre Seeing Course Improvements With Redexim Rink DS800 Top Dresser

An increase in player traffic at Lymington Golf Centre throughout 2020 left the course’s nine USGA (United States Golf Association)-spec greens and other areas in need of recovery. Rather than continue contracting top-dressing services, however, the Lymington, Hampshire-based course purchased a Redexim Rink DS800 trailed disk spreading top dresser to enable more frequent and effective performance. Course manager Brian Goodall is already seeing improvements where green speeds and recovery are concerned.

“I was keen to improve the condition of a few key course areas, one of which was the greens, to not only improve the playing experience but also help them to cope with the increase in rounds,” says Goodall, who oversaw the course’s conversion from 20.2 hectares (50 acres) of farmland 16 years ago.

Trailed & Mounted

Known as Walhampton Golf Course until 2017, Lymington Golf Centre purchased the Rink DS800 from local John Deere dealer Hunt Forest Group. The facility, which overlooks The Solent and Isle of Wight, also acquired a Redexim Speed-Brush to incorporate sand into the top-dressing profile. The DS800 has a 0.8-cubic metre (28-cubic-foot) hopper capacity, variable spreading width between 2 and 12 m (6.6 and 39.4 ft), and spreading thickness between 0.5 and 15 millimetres (0.02 and 0.6 inches). Redexim also sells a mounted DS800 variant for use with Deere ProGator and Toro Workman utility vehicles.

“We had been using a contractor for top dressing previously, the issue being that the day you’re booked in isn’t necessarily the best day to conduct that sort of operation,” Goodall says. “Several other greenkeepers recommended the Rink from Redexim, and after other testimonials from Hunts and a local contractor, I made the purchase.”

“So Simple To Use”

Goodall’s team have performed two top-dressing operations with the DS800 and are planning four to six operations annually in combination with the Speed-Brush to continue producing truer, faster greens that can stand up to wear and that are less susceptible to pitch marks.

“It’s got a great range of adjustments and is so simple to use,” Goodall says of the DS800.
