Better Surfaces, Better Participation: SISIS Quadraplay Improves Pitch Maintenance In Staffordshire
The Staffordshire Football Association’s goal of improving 20,000 grass pitches across England over the next decade has taken a major step forward thanks to a new partnership with Dennis, SISIS, and Campey Turf Care Systems. These leading turf care companies provide the right machines to efficiently work a pitch, and the Football Association’s programme includes significant funding to support grassroots clubs like Waterhouses FC that grow the sport. Based in North Staffordshire, the club recently took possession of an SISIS Quadraplay, a multi-purpose, single-pass mounted frame capable of incorporating four implements, to enhance the surface quality of its pitches.
The Whole Community Benefits
Waterhouses FC is home to a variety of teams, ranging from Under 8’s and older, and five villages play on pitches maintained by the Waterhouses Parish Council.
“Since 2008, the maintenance of the pitches has been down to the Parish Council, but with so much to do, it has been difficult to juggle everything,” says Chairman David Stone. “As a result, the pitches suffered and now we want to improve them.”
The Quadraplay’s independent mounted frame is designed for utmost efficiency. Implements like grooming rakes, spikers, slitters, rollers, and brushes can be fitted to the SISIS Quadraplay and independently adjusted to carry out four operations at once.
“The Quadraplay helps with the presentation of the pitch, it disperses the worm casts, it rolls the pitch, and de-thatches it,” says Chris Hinton, clerk to the Parish Council. “Depending on weather, we plan on using it at least once a week—it will be invaluable to us. The quality of the pitches will go up and the costs of doing it will go down, because we no longer have to bring in third parties.”
A Versatile Machine
The Quadraplay’s adjustable jacks let operators manage each fitted implement to work as lightly or aggressively as needed. And its versatile design lets the Quadraplay work on surfaces like natural and synthetic turf, as well as hard, porous surfaces. SISIS also offers its implement-mounted frames as Tri-play (accommodates three implements), Twinplay (two implements), and Singleplay (one implement) models.
“We don’t want clubs to buy equipment that they might only be able to use a couple of times a year,” says Gareth Thomas, commercial and partnership lead for Staffordshire FA. “The Quadraplay is ideal because it is versatile and can be used on a regular basis throughout the year. It is a product we are more than happy to put our name to.”
